The human tolerability record
A reassuring comparison with placebo deserves to be read at the size and duration of the trials that produced it.
Adults with obesity
The 2013 report on safety and tolerability draws on roughly six clinical trials totalling about 900 adults with obesity. Oral AOD-9604 had a reported safety and tolerability profile indistinguishable from placebo, without the adverse effects associated with full-length human growth hormone in that program. The study durations ranged from 7 days to 24 weeks.
This is a substantial human record beside the animal experiments discussed here. The report’s direct question about exposure in people earns my respect. Its favourable tolerability finding belongs alongside the population, oral route and observation periods that produced it.
I distrust the adjective safe once it escapes those particulars. A trial report describes what was observed during its trials. A statement about indefinite exposure would require an observation the reported durations cannot supply.
The oral trials’ observation window
The oral human tolerability report provides context for AOD-9604, a named target in the method for screening small peptides in urine. For the oral report, the relevant window is the 7 days to 24 weeks during which adults with obesity were observed.
I give the longest follow-up a place beside the reassuring placebo comparison. Seven days and 24 weeks are quite different stretches of observation, and neither describes indefinite exposure.
The urine-screening question remains tied to its own specifics: a selected peptide panel and the reported 50-500 pg/mL detection-limit range. The oral record adds background for one target; it supplies no more precise detection limit for that target.
Later safety cautions
A 2026 sports-medicine review includes AOD-9604 among unapproved peptides and warns that rigorous human safety evidence is scarce across these performance and musculoskeletal applications, with potential for serious harm. Its broad caution and the earlier oral tolerability report have different scopes.
I take the earlier placebo comparison seriously. I also decline to stretch it into assurance for every route, purpose or duration. The interesting work lies in establishing where the reassuring result continues to hold.
The unknown-preparations essay returns to sample material: AOD-9604 identified in seized preparations, alongside the screen developed for urine.
